Getting Together with Children’s Writers & Theatre Visits
Mrvice iz dnevnog boravka at the 'Žar ptica' City Theatre
On April 29th the MYP0 and MYP1 Croatian Language and Literature students watched the play 'Mrvice iz dnevnog boravka' at the 'Žar ptica' City Theatre. 'Mrvice iz dnevnog boravka' is on the MYP0 school reading list.
Getting Together with Sanja Pilić
On May 3rd the MYP0 Croatian Language and Literature students, accompanied by their Croatian teacher Ms. Mirjana Blažičko and the school librarian Ms. Mirna Ćurković, visited the Children’s Book Festival at the Trešnjevka Cultural Centre to get together with Ms. Sanja Pilić, the author of the novel 'Mrvice iz dnevnog boravka'. Sanja Pilić is a Croatian children's writer and the winner of many important and valuable awards and recognitions for her work. During the interactive meeting, the students discovered what Ms. Sanja Pilić has written so far, what she planned to write and where the inspiration for writing came from. She was ready to answer all the students’ questions and we learned about her childhood, schooling, family and much more.
Getting Together with Sonja Zubović
On April 27th the MYP2 Croatian Language and Literature students, accompanied by the school librarian Ms. Mirna Ćurković, visited the ‘Knežija Library’ to get together with Ms. Sonja Zubović, the author of the novel ‘Belini brodovi’. Sonja Zubović is the author of numerous works for adults and children, but emphasised that she especially liked to write for children and young people. She presented her books for children and with a very interactive approach created a relaxed atmosphere that our students enjoyed while asking questions and learning more on the skills needed to be a writer. These get-together events will undoubtedly encourage us to become keen readers and boost our writing confidence.
Opera Night
On May 4th, as a part of the Music classes, the MYP3 students went to the Croatian National Theatre to watch the Croatian opera 'Ero s onoga svijeta' by Jakov Gotovac. It has become a tradition to organise an opera night with MYP3 students. This comic opera is full of sparkling satire, beautiful folk songs and people with human virtues and faults. It is an ode to a rural way of life. It culminates in a frenzied tempo with a vigorous ballet – a celebration of Dalmatian music and dance. In Music class the students learnt with teacher Lucija about opera, its terminology and key parts, while this theatre visit bridged a gap between the theory and the real power of opera.
