This year, on the occasion of the School Day, during the month of January, the students were involved in a variety of learning activities collaboratively planned by the teachers around the main project theme ‘Gubec Linden Tree’.

Within the project the students explored the lyric poetry with the linden tree motif, conducted an imaginary interview with Matija Gubec, made the 'Matija Gubec Life' comic, wrote haiku poetry with the linden tree motif, listened to the traditional music of Hrvatsko zagorje and learnt about the importance of cultural monuments for a country.

They time-travelled to the Middle Ages to discover how a day in the life of a peasant during feudalism looked like, to compare the status of the farmers in Middle Ages and modern era, to expand their knowledge on feudal society and Matija Gubec, a rebel against the feudal society, and to understand his role in fight for justice. The students were also engaged in many creative workshops where they made handmade recycled paper from pieces of linden flowers, recycled paper bookmarks with linden motif embroidery and GIFs or Stop Motion animations on the theme of Gubec linden tree or Matija Gubec super hero.

In addition they made some dramatizations: I as Gubec Linden Tree and Peasants' Revolt. The linden tree is called ’the medicine tree’, so the students also explored its health benefits, especially the diuretic properties of linden tea.
