On the 9th March 2023, MYP2 and MYP3 students visited the Croatian National Theatre for a backstage tour.

First, we walked under the stage and saw three lifts that were used to make characters disappear from the stage. Next, we saw the VIP guest area and the Emperor’s chamber and balcony. Interestingly, the Emperor’s balcony did not have a good view of the stage, and instead faced the audience, because it was more important for people to see their Emperor, than for the Emperor to see the performance! Then we visited the stage for small performances, which resembled the big stage, but smaller. Finally, we walked along the underground tunnel that led from the Croatian National Theatre under the road to the ballet rehearsal rooms, where we saw costumes and a rehearsal.

This journey behind scenes was a really unique experience that helped us see the theatre from other perspectives and that would definitely engage us to go to the theatre more often.
