The ’Art and Identity’ Project

The ’Art and Identity’ Project

The ’Art and Identity’ project engaged the students of 6th, 7th and 8th grade in research and construction of personal identity in relation to art and culture. Our school was the host of the project and the partners were Fran Krsto Frankopan Primary School from Osijek and Bedekovčina Primary School from Bedekovčina. The author of this project is the Visual Art teacher Ms. Ivana Devernay Cimić.

Throughout the project the students learnt about the life and work of Frida Kahlo as well as the other artists related to Frida, and created their works of art through the prism of cultural and artistic heritage, tolerance, gender equality, feminism, disability, non-discrimination and personal and cultural development.

Through the project activities, the development of multicultural competences was mainly encouraged as the ability to understand, appreciate and interact with people from other cultures and backgrounds. The students were encouraged to be empathetic, tolerant, to accept differences and to be aware of the importance of gender equality.

The scope of the activities has been carried out during the 2022/2023 school year in Visual Art and English Language and Literature class, extracurricular activities and cross-curricular areas such as Civic Education and Personal and Social Development. All activities resulted in various art works, digital presentations and gifs, spatial "art" installations, audio-video work, literary works and an exhibition. The detailed information on the project is available in the attached presentation or via the Art and Identity link on the eTwinning/TwinSpace educational platform.
