Watch out! PYP 2 scientists are in the House!

New Unit of Inquiry – so exciting!

How the world works – Weather happens every day and everywhere.

How clouds are formed? And rain? What is a snowstorm and why does it happen? All these were something we inquired about.

We got ready for the experiments – listened to the instructions carefully, put the protections on the desks, gloves on our hands, took all the necessary materials and got ready to show our scientists’ skills.

Did you know that clouds are actually made of tiny water droplets or ice crystals?

We first boiled some water and poured it in a jar. Next, we put a lid on the jar and some ice cubes on the lid. One minute later, we removed the lid, sprayed some hairspray and quickly put the lid back. We witnessed the cloud formation. Finally, we removed the lid and let the cloud go.

To see why rain falls, we used some shaving foam, water, a jar, food colouring and a pipette. When we put some food colouring on the shaving foam (which represented a cloud), the cloud became heavier and heavier and that is when the rain (food colouring) started to fall. Rain in various colours. Such a scene!

And the most enjoying experiment of all – A snowstorm in a jar!

A jar, white paint and water, some glitter, an effervescent tablet and voila! A snowstorm is there! We now know why snowstorms are severe weather phenomena.

Function, change and causation - the key concepts of this Unit.

Is there a better way to understand them?
