International Dance Day

International Dance Day

April 29th is celebrated world widely as International Dance Day. For this occasion we had visiting teachers joining us on one of PYP2 lessons. Since their Unit of Inquiry at the moment is about how we express ourselves through different types of art, this was a perfect moment to introduce new faces to this class’ Zoom meetings.

Their names are Danijela and Mia. They have known each other since high school, and now they work together as contemporary dance teachers in Franjo Lucic Art School in Velika Gorica.

They demonstrated a few Question&Answer exercises which they usually do with their dance students, in which dance is used as a way of non-verbal communication, and Imitation where one person is dancing, and another one is trying to copy the moves. They also gave our students an opportunity to talk to each other by doing this type of dance exercise.

You can just imagine how much fun they had!

Another thing they showed us was that modern dance is a great way of expressing our feelings and imagination by presenting kitchen activities such as dishwashing and cooking with dancing.

Our students tried the same - one of them was dancing while the other one was trying to guess what he or she was “dancing about”.

In the end they showed us how distance learning works for dance classes. They shared two really nice videos of their students - one from primary, another one from secondary school.

Once again we would like to thank teacher Danijela and teacher Mia for joining us on International Dance Day! We hope that on next IDD 2021 we will be able to come to their school and visit their class in person.
