How important money is, and why do we need it? What would happen if there was no money at all? Who decides how big salary should a worker get? What happens if workers don’t do their job well? Is being rich equal to being happy?

We inquired about these and many other questions through one of the lines of inquiry during our second Unit of Inquiry – How we organize ourselves: Duties and Rights of a Worker.

To make it more interesting, we designed and made our own, PYP2 currency – Pips and mips. Went one step further and with teachers’ assistance, we thought of a list of jobs which we need to do over a four-week period, and for which we will get paid weekly. Also, if we don’t do our job properly, our salary will not be full. On the other hand, if we do even better than expected, we will get a raise!

The jobs are those that every student has in their school life. Regular weekly class jobs, finishing schoolwork timely, being active and participating in discussions, keeping your working place clean and organized, respecting one’s personal space and health, and follow the basic principles of hygiene.

Well, we got our first salaries, and we must say that they were not all full. Still, some of us got a raise!

Conclusion: With all the rights workers have, it is not easy to earn your money.
